Mother Blessing

“The circles of women around us weave invisible nets of love, that carry us when we are weak and sing to us when we are strong.”

mother BLESSING

WHAT TO EXPECT

A belly blessing is an intimate sacred ritual in celebration of the birthing mother. The ceremony is rooted in the Navaho tradition, performed as a rite of passage, to spiritually support and empower the mother on her journey. This offering can be received by a mother each time she births a child and is usually performed during the 3rd trimester (30-38 weeks is recommended).

Traditionally a blessing ceremony is organised by a friend or sister of the mother, and most groups will split the investment as a gift. The mama’s only job is to receive the yummy offering!

DETAILS

Together we will experience some of the following rituals.

All of these rituals are optional.

Through conversation and connection, I will weave together a ceremony that best suits the birthing mother.

  • Drum Bath & Sage Cleanse: A ritual to welcome you and your sisters into ceremony.

  • Grounding Meditation: We will sit together to ground into the space and connect to our hearts.

  • Guided Sharing Circle - an opportunity for all of your sisters to share wisdom and stories of motherhood and offer blessings for your birth.

  • Birth Necklace Ritual - Each guest brings a small bead which will be made into a necklace. The necklace is a symbol of love and support for you to wear during the birth of your baby.

  • Red Thread Ritual - We pass around a yarn of red wool and each woman will bind it around her wrist and wear it until the mother births her baby to represent her village of support.

  • Mandala Blessing - You will be adorned with crystals, flowers and leaves and all of your sister will gather to offer you a hands on healing meditation (this is also a wonderful photo opportunity).

  • Touch Temple - Massage & Foot Bath for the mother to relax and connect with her sisters.

  • Belly Painting - I can provide water-based, fragrance free and non-toxic paints and if the the mother desires her guests can create a beautiful design on her belly. I will provide inspirational images to get ideas flowing.

  • Mud Belly Painting - We can use ochre or mud from the land to adorn the mamas belly with art as a reminder of her connection to land and spirit.
